Was taking a walk down our street alongside an old orange grove and this Pileated Woodpecker landed eye level in the trees near me. Luckily, I had my camera with me. I was very surprised that he let me get within about five feet of him and that he remained there for some time. Although, he was very busy pecking for bugs the entire time…pieces of bark were flying! It was difficult to get a good shot of his head that wasn’t a blur, but this one turned out okay.
My settings were ISO 100, f/6.3, 1/100 sec, at 132mm (18-135mm). Applied some cropping.
